The way square footage is disclosed varies across properties and management companies. Some complexes measure from floor plans provided by architects or builders. Others remeasure units directly. In older buildings or those with irregular layouts, measurements can differ based on whether walls, built-in features, or enclosed patios are included in the calculation.
Renters often discover differences between advertised and actual square footage. A unit listed as 850 square feet may measure 800 square feet when independently verified, or conversely might be slightly larger.
